Idiot of the Day: Tom Delay

Idiot of the DayBy VictorM: This comment by Tom Delay pretty much stands on its own as an example of what the heart of the right-wing is like. This is not the comment of a fringe group. This is not an isolated post by someone out of step with the whole group. Tom Delay IS the voice of the right-wing:
"I believe it was Adolf Hitler who first acknowledged that the big lie is more effective than the little lie, because the big lie is so audacious, such an astonishing immorality, that people have a hard time believing anyone would say it if it wasn't true. You know, the big lie — like the Holocaust never happened or dark-skinned people are less intelligent than light-skinned people. Well, by charging this big lie" — that DeLay violated campaign-finance laws in Texas — "liberals have finally joined the ranks of scoundrels like Hitler."

Successful Demonization of the Liberal Label

Liberal vs ConservativeBy echine, commenting on a poll showing that 21% of Americans consider themselves Liberal, and 41% say they are Conservative: this self-identification does not match the same Americans' views on various public policy issues. Many so-called liberal policies have majority support. The interesting question is why people support liberal policies but reject the liberal label, and one answer is that this is a consequence of the successful demonization project of the Wingnuttia Inc. during the last two decades.

The World Needs This Like Bush Needs a Stiff Drink

By VictorM: Just what the world needs: "Conservapedia. A conservative encyclopedia you can trust." And why do we need this? "Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American... Conservapedia is an online resource and meeting place where we favor Christianity and America." Their definition of "liberal": Modern liberals are treasonous and generally hate America. The definition for "Pagan" includes: modern pagans like witches and Muslims, who do not beleive [sic] in Jesus. Yeah this is going to be interesting, and good for some laughs.

Simple Question, Simple Answer

By VictorM: On his right-wing blog, Jules Crittenden, asks: Psychopaths are out there trying to kill Americans. That’s the Number One issue. What is the Democratic Congress going to do about it? Um... they might do what Bush hasn't: hunt them down and kill them without killing thousands of innocent Iraqis and diverting billions of our dollars to their friends!

Idiot of the Day: The Bug Man

By VictorM: This is pretty funny, when you consider the source: The Democrats are not off to a great start; they have installed dictatorial rule in the House by shutting down debate, they are showing themselves for what they truly are: the tax and spend liberals of the 1970s. Who said that? Tom Delay.

I Don't Want To Take Away People's Guns

By Rhonda, discussing the fear that liberals are out to get people's guns: I wonder if the fear that because someone who doesn't own a gun will take their gun away is somehow related to the right wing's frequent attempts to ban things that they disagree with. They don't like abortion, they want to outlaw it. They don't like gay marriage, they want to outlaw it. Do they think that because I personally don't have a gun I must want to outlaw them? I don't like some shellfish but I don't advocate outlawing them -- even though the Bible says they are an abomination.
