Idiot of the Day: Sam Brownback
By VictorM: I could pick this guys as the idiot of the day on just about any day. Really, this guy is so damn obnoxious. Anyway, it's time he made the list for his views on gays :Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback agrees with Gen. Peter Pace's remarks on homosexuality, saying he also believes homosexual acts are immoral. He also says the military's "don't ask, don't tell" is "an appropriate policy."

Homosexuality: Another Galileo Embarrassment Coming
By VictorM: Albert Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville wrote an article about homosexuality that for obvious reasons pissed off a lot of people. I'm not going to dwell on those reasons because they're too stupid for even an insignificant blog like this to address, but there are a few bits that I liked:Mohler conceded in his column what many opponents of homosexuality have rejected -- that there may be a biological explanation for why some people are attracted to those of the same sex... In the interview, Mohler said he's been "barraged by e-mails" from other evangelicals saying that there couldn't be a biological cause for homosexual orientation because that would eliminate the moral responsibility for homosexual acts. "That's just a bad argument," Mohler said. "I am absolutely confident that a large number of homosexuals are telling the truth when they say they did not choose that orientation," he added.Forget about the other nonsense in the article. That this jerk has other religious idiots discussing their shameful and stubborn position on homosexuality is a good thing. The more they talk, the more apparent it becomes that they demand 100% scientific evidence for the views of others while they offer 0% scientific evidence for theirs. There will come a day when they will face another Galileo embarrassment.

Don't Ask, Just Tell Them They're Hate Mongers
By VictorM: Common sense alone can't change the mind of those who agree with General Pace's homophobic comment. We need to shame everyone who holds those views for what they are: hateful people in our society. Former Senator Alan Simpson, a Republican who voted for the "don't ask, don't tell" approach to gays in the military has changed his mind. His opinion piece is good encouragement for those of us on the right side of this issue and a slap in the face of the hate-mongers (not that they will care):Since 1993, I have had the rich satisfaction of knowing and working with many openly gay and lesbian Americans, and I have come to realize that "gay" is an artificial category when it comes to measuring a man or woman's on-the-job performance or commitment to shared goals. It says little about the person... Let us end "don't ask, don't tell." This policy has become a serious detriment to the readiness of America's forces as they attempt to accomplish what is arguably the most challenging mission in our long and cherished history.

The Tragedy of Ted Haggard
By Andrew Sullivan: He previously said he'd struggled with his sexual orientation his entire life; now, he's "completely heterosexual." He is now claiming his sole sexual outlet was the one prostitute, Mike Jones. And yet he is being treated for "sexual addiction." Er: adultery with one other partner is not sexual addiction. Let's put it this way: even the quacks behind reparative therapy for homosexuals do not believe a few weeks of therapy will do the trick.

Soy is making kids 'gay'
By VictorM: So I'm reading this page about soy and the author says "Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality." He goes on to explain how soy has a lot of estrogen and how if you consume a lot of soy as a child it suppresses you testosterone and voila, we have gay babies. Well, I have no idea if this guy is on to something or if he's a kook -- I'm betting on kook -- but it just sounds like another homophobe backpaddling away from the "being gay is a choice" mantra because even they are realizing how lame that position is.And on a side note, if the soy quote is true, wouldn't it mean that gay men commonly have small penises?

Religion's Credibility and Homosexuality
By Oliver "Buzz" Thomas: Christianity is in danger of squandering its moral authority by continuing its pattern of discrimination against gays and lesbians in the face of mounting scientific evidence that sexual orientation has little or nothing to do with choice... The suffering that gay and lesbian people have endured at the hands of religion is incalculable, but they can look expectantly to the future for vindication. Scientific facts, after all, are a stubborn thing. Even our religious beliefs must finally yield to them as the church in its battle with Galileo ultimately realized. But for religion, the future might be ominous. Watching the growing conflict between medical science and religion over homosexuality is like watching a train wreck from a distance. You can see it coming for miles and sense the inevitable conclusion, but you're powerless to stop it. The more church leaders dig in their heels, the worse it's likely to be.Labels: homosexuality, religion
