Trick or treat!
I'm 30. I really shouldn't go trick or treating. The last time I went trick or treating was when I was 28 and living in Canada. Somehow I got away with it, either because I was hanging out with a bunch of teenage girls (I was volunteering at a home for runaways at the time) or because Canadians don't care if adults go trick or treating.
I love getting dressed up. This year I am a Devilish Angel (or an Angelic Devil). I'm wearing a halo held up by my horns, homemade wings (that are everso glittery), a tail, and all this with a white tank top and a school girl skirt. Kind of adult as far as Halloween costumes go. I wore it to a party this weekend, I can't wait to wear it on Halloween!
I know Halloween is for kids, but I think dressing up appeals to all ages. I'll dress up now, and I'll be dressing up when I'm 80!

Stop Sex Infections the Smart Way
"SxCheck, which launched this month, is the latest contender in the movement to change how we think about STIs [Sexually Transmitted Infections]. It's a joint project between Stanford graduate student Doug Wightman, 23, and the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation, or AIM, offering the general public an STI testing service based on one the adult industry has developed over a decade... The SxCheck process is simple. You decide which STIs you want to be screened for, order your test online, go to a local blood draw station, and access your results on the website... Negative test results are available online via digital certificate, while positive results -- and what you can do about them -- are communicated to you over the phone. Doug believes that by making STI testing routine, and the results easy to show to potential partners, SxCheck will have a profound impact on social behavior." (Full article here">)

Movie Review: The Prestige
Do you like movies that keeping you guessing every step of the way as the intrigue grows from minute to minute? And do you like it when the movie ends and you sit there trying to piece the whole thing together? And as you talk to other people who saw the movie they tell you things you didn’t think of or realized? And do you like it then you know you have to see it again because the movie is so rich in story and plot?
If the answers are yes, then go see The Prestige.
Director Christopher Nolan, using non-linear story telling, takes us for a great ride of magic, romance, but mostly revenge. We fallow the careers of two up and coming magicians and witness their rise in stardom while feuding over an event that caused a tragedy. Their feud gets more intense and the tricks more involved leading to the climatic conclusion.
Don’t bat an eye, don’t take your eyes off the screen, and don’t miss a word being spoken. Enjoy the magic.

Scarlett Johansson and Buck O'Neil
Listen to Scarlett Johansson's advice; she knows what she's talking about:
Buck O'Neil, for those who don't know, died a few days ago at age 94. A great baseball player who never got to play in the Major Leagues because he was black, he was a man of amazing charm and dignity. Here's the story about him that ties the two stories together:
May you rest in peace and may all the women wear red dresses.
"There does seem to be a mistaken belief out there that I am sexually available somehow - which is not to say that I'm not open-minded about sex... Yet I wouldn't say I'm a serial monogamist, either. I mean, I went through periods of time when I was, ah, single. But when I'm in a relationship, I'm in a relationship... "I do think on some basic level we are animals, and by instinct we kind of breed accordingly... I get tested for HIV twice a year... One has to be socially aware," she says. "It's part of being a decent human, to be tested for STDs. It's just disgusting behavior when people don't. It's so irresponsible."Now, what does that have to do with Buck O'Neil? Well, nothing, except for this picture:

appearances. "A woman who appeared to be in her 30s walked by in a red dress. We kept going, and then we looked back and noticed that Buck had gone back and was engaged in an animated conversation with her," Kendrick said. When O'Neil rejoined his friends a few minutes later, they asked if he knew the woman. "No," he told them with a wink. "But one thing in this life, son, you never pass up an opportunity to talk to a woman in a red dress."
May you rest in peace and may all the women wear red dresses.

I am a bargain hunter!
I am a bargain hunter, hear me roar! I will spend upwards of an hour looking through the racks at Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Goodwill and Salvation Army in the hunt for a bargain. I squeal with glee when I spy the 50%-75% clearance rack at Target. Nothing makes me happier than finding something I love at a price you can't beat. Bargain hunters are a special breed. Most of us were raised to be bargain hunters. My grandma was the coupon clipping Queen, and when she laid down her scissors to go to the bargain basement in the sky, she passed the scissors along to me and I've been clipping coupons ever since.
When I waltz into a store, I head straight for the clearance rack first. Find something I like that's not in my size? Never fear, I just check all the other size areas first to make sure it didn't get misplaced. I have found Doc Martens in the children's section of Ross before, and paid 20 dollars for 100 dollar shoes! I have gotten super nice sheets for only a fraction of what people pay retail for them. I have found some fabulous clothes that you can't find anywhere else and I have gotten them for less than they cost to make.
I am by no means cheap. I don't buy crap, I don't buy brands I don't recognize, or stuff that will fall apart quickly. I know it's worth it to spend good money on shoes because your feet will carry you all the days of your life. And I realize that driving around to find what I'm looking for at a good price costs me extra in fuel (well not me personally, I drive diesel and get excellent mileage, but you know what I mean). I consider bargain hunting a bit of entertainment, so if I have to drive around a bit, that's fine with me. And sometimes, when I can't find something I need cheap, I'll suck it up and pay more. Necessities are necessities. Most people can't stand to shop with me for any length of time, I walk around and think and compare too much. I look at everything! But that's okay, the life of a bargain hunter is often a lonesome one. It requires patience, perseverance, and the ability to say no to high prices.

Must See Caller ID
Does this sound like a good idea?
How many times have you been watching "Lost" and missed a crucial clue to the island's mysteries because you were interrupted by a phone call? You could tersely answer the phone and tell off the caller or ignore it altogether, but Smart Home has a more diplomatic solution. The TV Messenger displays Caller ID info right on your TV screen so you don't have to miss a moment of the action. Available now for $110.Come on, who needs this? If you're relaxing and watching TV... turn-off the damn phone! Or why not let voicemail get the call?

Movie Review: The Departed
If you like your movies to be top notch, intense, gritty, suspenseful, clever, perfectly paced, supremely well acted, and don’t mind stylish violence and a pounding soundtrack, you must make your way to see The Departed.
The familiar names are all at their very best: Martin Scorsese direction is impeccable, Jack Nicholson is at his devious best, Matt Damon just gets better and better, a trio of excellent actors -- Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Danny Wahlberg – make the most of their co-starring roles, but I must single out Leonardo DiCaprio; he steals the show, and that’s not easy to do with this cast. DiCaprio is simply sensational. His performance has Oscar nomination written all over it.
I won’t tell you too much about the movie. I’ll simply say it has to do with a mobsters and the police’s attempt to infiltrate his gang and nail him. Combine the mob and Martin Scorsese and you know there will be violence, but other than showing how brutal some people can get, the violent scenes move on quickly. This is above all, a very smart, engaging movie.
