Megan, 18, in Nevada: What is up with guys wanting a quantity of girls to lay? I don’t understand it, can you please clarify why this is?

VictorM: It basically has to do with the survival of the species. While a woman can have about one child per year, men can father an unlimited number. And when the species needed to survive by multiplying, that distinction came into play quit substantially. And that’s the way it has been for a couple million years. The idea of zero population growth is fairly recent talk, probably in the latter part of the 20th century. But for millions of years we were conditioned to behave a certain way and that behavior is now part of our DNA (I know, some could argue that it’s not so, but you know you’re just wasting your time).

As society has changed and now requires more monogamy for the sake of the children, men have nevertheless found ways around it by, for example, the common practice of marrying a woman along his society status but having one or more mistresses. Society pressure and women becoming much more financially independent are wrecking havoc with what has been millions of years in the making.

    Monogamy may be a choice, but biology should not be used an excuse. *smiles sweetly*

    And just to clarify, monogamy began with the end of the nomadic hunter/gatherer way of life in favor of an agrarian “I own this land” way of life. One might argue that it was woman’s idea to farm and cultivate, but man perfected this new ownership society. And that ownership included their wives and their children. Direct lineage was necessary for a man who wanted HIS land to pass to HIS kids, whereas in the nomadic society there existed communal sharing, even to the extent of women choosing different men to mate with.

    And instead of the community raising the kids, one woman -the man’s wife- became responsible for the primary care and feeding of offspring, leaving her littke time OR opportunity to pursue other lovers. Throw in a healthy dose of male dominated (and invented) religion, centuries of social pressure, and you get this unequal version of male/female coupling: where the man gets to have his cake and eat it too, while women and children become chattel. Women becoming financially independent is helping to BREAK this age old cycle. And now? It’s almost become acceptable in Western culture for women to bake AND eat the fucking cake.
