Republicans' perpetual memory loss
Paul Krugman, as usual, with sane comments about the economy, reminds us not to pay attention to Republicans:
Republicans, providing a bit of comic relief, are saying that the stimulus has failed, because the enabling legislation was passed four months ago — wow, four whole months! — yet unemployment is still rising. This suggests an interesting comparison with the economic record of Ronald Reagan, whose 1981 tax cut was followed by no less than 16 months of rising unemployment.Republicans really do want the economy to tank. Weasels.

I got these statistics from a poll done by CBS in June, polling 895 people. It helps put things in perspective:
Currently, 57% of Americans feel like their country is going in the right direction. Last October, before the election, that number was SEVEN percent. As in single digit. Yeah.
90% of Democrats approve of their own party policies; only 64% of Republicans approve of their own party. 51% of people who label themselves "independent" favor Democrats, while less than 20% of them favor Republicans.
I'd say the Dems are sitting pretty.
