Soccer: With friends like this...
By VictorM:Sometimes, I swear, the worst enemies of soccer in the USA are the same people that are trying to make it succeed. Take for example the game this Sunday between DC United and the LA Galaxy.
On one hand, we have David Beckham, Marcelo Gallardo, Landon Donovan, an expected near-capacity crowd at RFK stadium, a nationally televised game on ABC as the warm up to the Euro-2008 final, and... well, this is hard to believe but the game will be played at noon. That's right! In the summer time, in the northeast, at freaking burning as hell noon!
As Marcelo Gallardo was quoted saying:
I don't think that is an ideal time for a game for athletes to play. It is going to be so hot and humid. I just think it is sort of a contradiction because you are trying to bring in so many people but then it is not going to be the best show when the sun is at its highest. It is going to be very hard."Not an ideal time? No kidding! I'm sweating just thinking about it.
