Bush is lying again
By VictorM:President Bush is now using a new tactic to justify the drilling at ANWR trying to link the current costs of gasoline with the need for more oil from Alaska. Why is this a blatant lie?
In 2004, the EIA released a report saying that if Congress were to allow drilling in ANWR that year, the oil would not actually begin flowing until 2013 and peak production would not be reached until 2025.The truth is even if we went ahead with the drilling, it would not have any impact on oil prices for many years to come.
Let's face it: Bush was instrumental in fucking up the economy. No amount of lies is going to fool the American people about that fact.

Drilling in ANWR is more about symbolism at this point than any practical benefit. It has become the symbol for environmental victory in keeping the anti-green Bush corporate cronies at bay.
He wants a victory now just to be able to say to his big business masters that "I did it! I rubbed the noses of those pesky tree-huggers in it and got the drilling pushed through for you guys!"
It's just Them against Us. Well, fuck'em. Continue to say NO! to ANWR drilling. Deny them the win.

At this point, I doubt Bush could turn in an order at a McDonald's drive-up window without lying.
Re: ANWR, RReppy's rationale is very plausible. I tend to think BiG Oil wants to tap ANWR and as much offshore oil as it can as soon as it can, while demand is increasing worldwide, prices are high — and before viable alternative fuels for vehicles and planes are developed.
They've got their whole huge technological, industrial and business organization dedicated to petroleum. Morphing to something else will be costly, highly disruptive for years and otherwise more risky than what they've had for about a century. Hence, they want to get all they can before the game changes.
