Alberto Gonzales: Liar, liar, liar, liar, liar
By Paul Kiel (follow the link for an actual list of Gonzales' top lies):The verdict is clear: Alberto Gonzales is the lying-est attorney general in recent history. "I don't trust you," Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) told him last month. Ranking member Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) sounded him out for his "lack of credibility." "He tells the half truth, the partial truth and everything but the truth," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that Gonzales. “He’s one sneaky, lying S.O.B., to put it bluntly" is Rep. David Obey's (D-WI) frank take.

My pet theory is that to a degree never before seen in U.S. politics, perversity is a strong underlying motivation for neocon Republicans.
The way that plays out is, the more the rest of us find George W. Bush wrong, dishonest, bad, incompetent, sneaky, etc., and say so, the more his political base values and supports him.
Likewise, the more statements of outrage, disgust and unacceptability Gonzales generates from Democrats, especially elected ones, the more determined Bush is to keep his sleazy A.G. on the job.
This is partly out of sheer delight at getting and keeping the opposition beside themselves with anger and frustration, partly out of demonstrating to the base Bush knows how to satisfy their desire to be as big a PITA to liberals and Democrats as possible.
