Obesity is contagious

ObeseBy VictorM: Is it time to ditch your fat friends?

One person's obesity can significantly increase the chance that his or her friends, siblings and spouse also will become heavy, according to the first study done on how weight gain spreads through social networks. And if a person slims down, the people around him or her also may lose weight.

Comments:
Fascinating article. I would never have thought that. So then would it follow that the reverse is true?

"And if a person slims down, the people around him or her also may lose weight."

Sounds like the reverse is also true. But of course, I imagine that it's much harder. I think in the interest of socializing, people are more likely to have that extra french fry or that extra beer than the other way around.

Actually, I meant if there is someone you really don't like who is overweight would that then help you to lose? Follow my logic here?

Ditch them? Hell no! They have the best chocolate.

Seriously though, several of us have been on Weight Watchers here at work. And all together we've lost like...I dunno...a thousand pounds? I don't go to the meetings, but I do keep track of my calories. And we all help one another not to overeat when we're out to lunch. So yeah, the library is just chock full of losers.

;)
