Idiot of the Day: Don Larsen

idiot of the DayBy VictorM: Don Larsen is a Republican from Utah. Several people actually should be included with him as idiots, but I don't want to call all Utah County Republicans idiots. In fairness, most were gone at the end of their convention when debate on Satan's influence on illegal immigrants came up. And some spoke openly against this idea. But that this topic was even on the agenda is reflective of the current Republican party:
In a speech at the convention, Larsen told those gathered that illegal immigrants "hate American people" and "are determined to destroy this country, and there is nothing they won't do."

Illegal aliens are in control of the media, and working in tandem with Democrats, are trying to "destroy Christian America" and replace it with "a godless new world order -- and that is not extremism, that is fact," Larsen said.

At the end of his speech, Larsen began to cry, saying illegal immigrants were trying to bring about the destruction of the U.S. "by self invasion."
A little over the line of reasonableness, wouldn't you say? It actually takes quite a bit of effort to be this stupid.

I know that a small number of nutty and/or hysterical people say these things. Whether they truly believe them or are just trying to gain political power through fearmongering is an open question.

What gets me more than Larsen and his paranoid ranting is that others scheduled him to speak.

They're like the tent preachers of old, going from town to town, whipping people into a frenzy over nothing, and rutting in the rows with the farmer's daughters.

I've seen Elmer Gantry waaay too many times.

I feel bad for people like this guy. They are so twisted that actually live in agony with the scenarios they created in their little poisoned minds.

Ok, I don't really feel bad for him. I feel bad there are such people.
