Homosexuality: Another Galileo Embarrassment Coming

homosexualityBy VictorM: Albert Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville wrote an article about homosexuality that for obvious reasons pissed off a lot of people. I'm not going to dwell on those reasons because they're too stupid for even an insignificant blog like this to address, but there are a few bits that I liked:

Mohler conceded in his column what many opponents of homosexuality have rejected -- that there may be a biological explanation for why some people are attracted to those of the same sex... In the interview, Mohler said he's been "barraged by e-mails" from other evangelicals saying that there couldn't be a biological cause for homosexual orientation because that would eliminate the moral responsibility for homosexual acts. "That's just a bad argument," Mohler said. "I am absolutely confident that a large number of homosexuals are telling the truth when they say they did not choose that orientation," he added.

Forget about the other nonsense in the article. That this jerk has other religious idiots discussing their shameful and stubborn position on homosexuality is a good thing. The more they talk, the more apparent it becomes that they demand 100% scientific evidence for the views of others while they offer 0% scientific evidence for theirs. There will come a day when they will face another Galileo embarrassment.

the 'being gay is a choice' argument is falling. some are holding to it by their fingernails but it won't last long. then they'll have to change their tune

I had a friend who ask me to tell him when I had chosen to be hetrosexual and of course I had never had such a thought. Homosexuauls are people . Period. They have no say in the matter. They are not sinful and maybe some day people will wakw up.

That would be so cool! I wouldn't want to be changed from being gay, however i've been told I resemble Richard Gere, ,but I really wanted to look like Tab Hunter.Hey If they can change the subtleties of sexual orientation, I want the works !

Many people have been arguing for years about "choice" without defining what the choices are. Most conservatives argue that homosexuality is a choice and that a person can choose to be single instead of pursuing a same gender relationship. What many conservative people are not seeing is that although people can choose to not act on gay feelings... they cannot choose whether or not they have those feelings in the first place. I am so frustrated with the argument posed to Bishop Mohler that " there couldn't be a biological cause for homosexual orientation because that would eliminate the moral responsibility for homosexual acts". I wish that a person holding this viewpoint would explain how this fits with the mainstream christian belief that ALL PEOPLE ARE BORN SINFUL. I'm not saying being gay is a sin.. I'm just pointing out how irrational some conservative arguments are. I am very very happy to see a leader of a conservative church challenging his people to open up their damn minds!!

If sexual preference can be "treated" in the womb, I will certainly orient my children toward being gay...I wouldn't want to risk their turning out heterosexual, if that means they'll be of Mohler's ilk.

All this is a sign of the times...Get Ready

Just because homosexuality would be deemed natural by birth doesn't make it normal. Birth defects are natural by birth, but they are disorders that society is open to correcting. Why have the gays given up on correcting their defect?

I just wanted to share my position on this as a person who knows Jesus and tries my best to follow him. The bible says that all people are born into sin, and sin seperates us from God. We were all created to know and have an intimate relationship with God. God, loving the world so much, sent his son Jesus to die and take the punishment for our sin on himself. For the bible says that the wages of sin are death. Some question why God sends people to hell if he is a loving God, but people choose a life away from God by rejecting him. God is everything good and hell is everything bad. If you choose to reject God then you are choosing an eternity without him, witout his goodness.
I have an aunt who is gay and i love her very much. It hurts me to see her, or any of my relatives regardless of sexual preferences, living a life not knowing how loving God really is. Sin is sin. Heterosexual adultery is just as sinful as homosexual sin. There isn't a sin worse than another sin. And christians aren't perfect. But the closer in relationship that you get to Jesus, the more he changes you. That's the way it works. We aren't supposed to change to come to God, we come to God the way that we are and surrender ourselves to him. Then through relationship with him he changes us.

Perhaps science will discover there are virtually no limits to what can be achieved by manipulating a fetus? If that happens I would choose to remove the gene that could cause my child to become an Evangelical Christian.
After all, they have caused more harm than all the homosexuals born since the beginning of time.

Keep your CHOSEN beliefs to your self.

No one has proven there is a god. So stop shoving it down everyone's f*ck throat!!!!!

What christian? man or woman's business how I live my life. I think the Baptists will end the world as we know it. Thet are the devil's advocate. Jerry Faldwell and Pat Robertson will burn in hell together right with Fred Phelps between them.

I believe in God. I know that being gay is innate. Gay people can be as good or as bad as heterosexuals. The fact that they are gay has no effect one way or the other on their moral compasses. God himself made some of our brothers and sisters homosexual. The ability to love emanates from God's grace. If men love men and women love women, it is with God's grace that they do so.

If gay people did not serve an important purpose as the fundamental glue in society (teachers, coaches, artists, police officers, writers, caretakers, family peace-makers, etc.) they would have been bred out of the gene pool many eons ago. The Israelites didn't like gays because their purpose was to procreate...they were just ignorant.

". . . there couldn't be a biological cause for homosexual orientation because that would eliminate the moral responsibility for homosexual acts."

This begs the question, since when does a religious group's perceived need to have grounds for judging and condemning others rule out what logic now points to as true and what science will in time confirm once and for all?

One troubling and sometimes dangerous thing about faith is that facts and realities needn't matter. It's all in what one believes and/or wants to believe.

People who base their political notions and votes solely on religious beliefs ought to keep that in mind. What they're doing makes as much sense as putting on a blindfold before speeding down a freeway during rush hour, secure in the belief that if God wills it, they'll get where they're going safely.
