Redstate: Angry white men still furious about Vietnam
By PKinTexas, commenting on some posters in Redstate, a right-wing website: Angry white men still furious about Vietnam, and the "victory" we could have had if only we could have killed more people and devastated more of that country in the name of freedom. They just never grasp the fact that we are not (and clearly never have been) the world's grand chess master, and that no matter what lofty goal we think we're fighting for, militarism simply isn't the way to get there except in unusual circumstances (such as Yugoslavia). But those two core beliefs--that our idealism is always noble, and that our military can enforce our ideals on unwilling populations--are really hard to dislodge from the mentality of the angry white men. Faced with the failure of their grand illusions, they have to blame someone else for the appalling destruction they have wrought.
