Pregnant or UTI?

I think I am pregnant for the 1st time ever. I had my last period well over a month ago and thought that I would have my period start in the last couple of weeks or so as I have had all the usual PMT stuff. Anyway, one question I would like to ask is, when a woman falls pregnant for the first time, is it usual or not for her urine to smell slightly different to what it normally would? I drink plenty of water every day - just love the taste!! and am a type 2 Diabetic. Can someone help me out?

I'm not quite sure what PMT means...is that pregnancy signs? If so, I would suggest taking a home pregnancy test to see if you're pregnant.
The fact that your urine smells different is not a sign of pregnancy, typically it's a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI). Foul smelling urine, lower back pain, abdominal pain, nausea and/or vomiting, frequency, burning when you pee, blood in the urine--you can have one or all of these signs. Being a diabetic makes you more prone to get UTI, too. I'd suggest taking the home pregnancy test--if it's negative, I'd call the doctor to make sure you don't have a UTI. If it's positive, DEFINITELY get in to see the doctor as you are a high-risk pregnancy with diabetes and if you're taking oral medications you need to stop them!

Thanks for your reply. PMT is Pre-menstrual Tension. I didn't mean that my urine smelled as though I have a UTI, which I don't. What I meant was that my urine just smells slightly different to what it normally does. I did a home pregnancy test last night and it came back negative. I'm not sure if it best done 1st thing in the morning or any time of the day. My test didn't say when was the best time to do it. I'm still feeling weird though. My fiance says that my cervix feels quite hard. I don't know what this means. I also don't want to go to the doctor unnecessarily either. Wish I could be more certain than this. All I want is one child. But, for the moment, our crazy, mad cat is our child, and a very spoilt one at that.

I'm really not sure that urine smells any different when you're pregnant. And I have no idea if a "hard cervix" is a sign of pregnancy.
If you took the test and it came back negative, I'm 99.9% sure you're not pregnant. Sorry, it sounds like you're really trying. (And the morning is the best time to take the test). If you would feel better about seeing a doctor--then go for it. Ease your anxiety, questions, fears...whatever. Good luck!

Hi Stacy, thanks for that. I had a rather uncomfortable night last night with lots of back pain and cramping (came on all of a sudden) and then today I got my period. It's a real bummer! Oh well, we will keep on trying..
