I was talking to a girlfriend a few days ago about my frustration with the male persuasion and then she point-blank asked me what I can tolerate, put up with, deal with. She also reminded me that if I'm dating computer programmers, they're not well known for their social graces. Not only that, they could have other social issues.

A former student of mine has Asperger's Syndrome, which is basically all the social aspects of Autism. He doesn't transition well, he has a hard time reading other people's social cues (especially body language), is obsessive about certain subjects, and has hypersensitivity to scents, lighting and food. I'm starting to wonder if these guys are somewhat like him.

Do I expect too much? Is a phone call so important? Maybe the normal "rules" don't apply to geek dating.
