I've Been Lying
Stephanie, 16
New York
Asks:
I've been lying to all my friends about having boyfriends because I never had one. Now they think I just ended a three year relationship. Should I tell them the truth or continue lying?
Lee's Thoughts:
Stephanie,
STOP LYING!!!!!!!
Aren't you old enough to know that nothing good can come of it?
You will only dig yourself into a deeper and deeper hole.
Have you finally learned this lesson?
Think about this...How would you feel if one of your friends lied to you like this?
I would feel completely duped. Why should I trust anything she said? How do I know she wouldn't lie about more important things? I would be second-guessing this chic forever.
I think you should just SHUT UP about this fictional relationship. No one cares about anyone else's life as much as their own. So, if you just stop talking about this guy, it will soon go away. If anyone brings him up, just blow it off like you are completely over him and don't want to talk about it.
What is the big deal about having a boyfriend anyway? Sixteen-year old boys are usually more trouble then they're worth.
Maybe you have STANDARDS.
Maybe you don't fall for every shmoe that comes sniffing around you.
Maybe no guy has ever been GOOD ENOUGH for you to consider *boyfriend material*.
Ever think of that?
