I Asked Her Out...Now What??

Scott, 14
Georgia
Asks:

I really like this girl and I asked her out recently using your tips. They worked, but when I go up to her, I am speechless. I have nothing to talk to her about. What should I talk about? HELP

Lee’s Thoughts:

Scott,

It’s all about….

Research, Research, RESEARCH.

You want to learn all you can about her (without crossing over into creepy-stalker-land).

What clubs is she involved in?
What sports?
What people does she hang out with?
Do you have any mutual friends?
What does she do after school?
Did she grow up locally or out of state?

I know the awkward silence can be TORTURE, so be sure to do your homework. The best friend, or anyone in her group of friends, can be a great source of information. (Also, the gossip chain will probably get back to her that you were asking about her…a nice plus).

You can also check out last year’s school yearbook to see what she was involved in. That is a great basis for questions during the SILENCE. You also might learn something interesting about her that you never knew.

“So! You’re on the underwater basket weaving team! Interesting! How long can you hold your breath? What kind of material is used for that?”

Questions are a great *out* when you get mind-freeze while standing in front of her. Ask her anything.

“Seen any good movies lately?”
I’m a BIG fan of the *movie* conversation…it can go on forever.
"Oh! You’ve seen Lizards in Space? What did you think? Have you seen Lizards in Space Part 2? That one was MUCH better in my opinion. It reminded me of Iguanas on Mars without the violence…”

Or…

“I love your hair. Where did you find that shade of purple?”

”So, did you figure out the quadratic equation problem in Mr. Baldhead’s class? That chapter is tough!”

”What do you think of all that Shakespeare we are reading in Miss BigButt’s class? I kinda like it. The Cliff’s Notes are a BIG help.”

The key is to ask her about something she is interested in. You want to bring up a topic that she cares about and may have some opinions about. You want to get her talking. (GIRLS LOVE TO TALK). Just approach her with a plan and a few good questions that you can use if things start getting quiet.

The more you ask, the more you talk, the more you will develop things in common.
Soon, you won’t have to approach her with a *plan* at all.

Good Luck!!
